Jose Mourinho 'eating same meal every evening at £1k-a-night Istanbul hotel'

Jose Mourinho is revered as one of Europe's best coaches - his diet is much less adventurous though.

Jose Mourinho has reportedly been living off the same meal every day while staying at a £1,000-per-night hotel in Istanbul.

Mourinho was appointed Fenerbahce manager in the summer having been sacked by Serie A outfit Roma last season.

The fiery Portuguese coach was given a hero's welcome when he arrived in the Turkish capital, but it doesn’t appear Mourinho has taken to the food scene in Istanbul just yet.

That’s because according to The Daily Mail, the ex-Real Madrid and Manchester United chief has been living off chicken soup, margherita pizza, ice cream and sparkling water, which he indulges in every evening.

Mourinho is believed to be living at the Four Seasons Hotel - a luxurious residency that sits on the banks of the Bosphorus Straight.

The £7,000-a-week suite is unlikely to make much of a dent in his bank balance, given Mourinho is reportedly pocketing a whopping £10million a year.

It’s a wage packet that will no doubt bring a touch of pressure, especially given it’s over 10 years since Fenerbahce last lifted the Turkish Super Lig title.

They came mightily close last season, notching up an astonishing 99 points, but they missed out on the title to bitter rivals Galatasaray, who posted an even better 102 points.

But it’s not only domestically where Mourinho is looking to make an impression, with Fenerbahce also involved in this season’s Europa League.

Their continental campaign continues this week when none other than former club United make the trip to Fenerbahce’s Sukru Saracoglu Stadium.

Mourinho spent just over two years in charge of the Red Devils, taking charge of 144 matches and delivering two major honours, including the club’s first-ever Europa League title in 2017.

While his stint as United boss might have had an unceremonious ending, he remains the manager to have delivered United’s highest-ever points tally in the post-Alex Ferguson era.

On the three-time European champions’ handling of the Jadon Sancho saga, he commented: “For us coaches with more experience and many situations of deja vu as we get older, we try to help the players in the right direction.

"I think in this case, they look at it and for sure they try to analyse what happened at Man United and what happened and what he [Sancho] found in Dortmund."

Mourinho will be keen to compound United’s misery when the pair meet again on Thursday evening.
