Manchester United midfielder Kobbie Mainoo is on the brink of penning a new contract with the club to reward his sensational breakthrough since the start of last season.

United had reportedly initiated discussions to extend Mainoo's contract in March, acknowledging his escalating significance to the first team.

The 19-year-old made 32 appearances last season and has started nine of the club's 11 games this term. He has already earned 10 England caps.

According to the Manchester Evening News, an agreement for a new deal is imminent, and Mainoo will be granted a well-deserved pay rise upon signing.

There has been a relaxed approach towards Mainoo's contract situation from all involved, with no urgency to hasten talks earlier this year.

The Stockport-born midfielder remained concentrated on his game, shining for England at the European Championships after netting a goal in United's FA Cup final triumph at Wembley.

Mainoo, who signed a long-term contract as recently as February 2023, enjoyed a standout 2023/24 season and will be rewarded with enhanced terms.

The performance-related bonuses in Mainoo's current contract have been activated. Hence, there was no rush from the player's side to expedite a new deal.

Mainoo's meteoric rise over the past year has been remarkable and he is a player United plan to centre their midfield around as Sir Jim Ratcliffe aims to return the club to former glories.

He is seen as a crucial element of Ratcliffe's long-term project, and the British billionaire lauded his "remarkable maturity" ahead of the Euro 2024 final.

Mainoo has been a constant presence in United's starting lineup this season, featuring in every Premier League match and taking the pitch in 23 out of 25 games since his full league debut against Everton last term.

Gareth Southgate recognised his stellar performances with a call-up to England's squad for the Euros, where he played from the group stages onwards.

Southgate, now the former England boss, hailed Mainoo as "exceptional," remarking that the nation "hadn't really had a player like him until now."

Despite being selected by interim manager Lee Carsley for the current international break, Mainoo had to pull out due to unforeseen circumstances.

With Alejandro Garnacho making waves, Mainoo stands out as one of the most successful graduates from United's academy in recent times, and he has openly expressed his gratitude towards Erik ten Hag for the chances given to him.

"I am grateful that he has given me an opportunity to play for this club. Also, what I appreciate is that he pushes you every day," the United No. 37 hailed.

"He keeps pushing you and wants more and more and more from his players. I think that really helps you to develop quicker."
