ITV cameras caught the Manchester United co-owner, INEOS Director of Sport and United sporting director walking into the building this morning.

Jamie Carragher doesn't believe Erik ten Hag will be Manchester United's manager by the end of next month's international break.

But he has launched a surprising defence of the Dutchman, slamming INEOS for their treatment of him during the summer.

"Listen, I think it will be tough for him, but I have sympathy for him," Carragher told Sky Sports.

"Because I think he's been hung out to dry a little bit on the back of what happened in the summer with the ownership speaking to other managers.

"I feel for him, no manager or anyone in employment would want his bosses speaking publically to lots of different people in the game. It's going to be tough for him to see out the season."

Manchester United reportedly have their sights set on Thomas Tuchel should they decide to sack Erik ten Hag.

According to the Manchester Evening News, United view the German's availability after his Bayern Munich exit as a major bonus.

The Red Devils are believed to be interested in alternative candidates who are in active work, making an agreement difficult.

Tuchel's record of lifting silverware across his tenures at Borussia Dortmund, PSG, Chelsea and Bayern will also appeal.

David Moyes has publicly backed Erik ten Hag amidst intense uncertainty over his future.

"I think he's doing a brilliant job. I think he's showed brilliant resilience in the situation he's in," Moyes told BBC Sport last night.

"I think he should be credited for how well he's conducted himself. As far as I know, I don't see him ducking any questions or media interviews put forward to him.

"So I think you have to give him great credit for that. But it's a job that's going to attract immense pressure, people talking.

"So I have to say I think he's done a brilliant job."

Manchester United's meeting in London is set to start early this morning, according to The Guardian.

That could mean the club's executive committee are set to get underway very shortly.

Sir Jim Ratcliffe, Joel Glazer and Sir Alex Ferguson were filmed arriving at Old Trafford yesterday for the first round of talks between club bosses.

The Old Trafford Regeneration Task Force were also present - including Gary Neville and Andy Burnham - to discuss the latest on the stadium.

Glazer also sat in the quarterly Fans' Advisory Board meeting - his first interaction with fans since November 2022.

Sir Jim Ratcliffe recently shrugged off the responsibility of making the final decision on Erik ten Hag's future.

"I like Erik, I think he’s a very good coach but, at the end of the day, it’s not my call," Ratcliffe told BBC Sport last week.

"It’s the management team that’s running Manchester United that have to decide how we best run the team in many different respects."

However, the three-man committee involving Ratcliffe, Sir Dave Brailsford and Joel Glazer will have the final say.

That will come based on the recommendation of sporting executives Omar Berrada, Dan Ashworth and Jason Wilcox.

Erik ten Hag has taken a short holiday at the start of the October international break.

If that doesn't suggest he's confident that he's safe for now, his comments after Sunday's 0-0 draw at Aston Villa do.

"I speak continuously with them. We always talk. I would say every day we talk," Ten Hag explained as he dismissed "external talk" about his future.

"Internal, we are disappointed, we know we have to do better, especially we need to score more."

Manchester United bosses have reportedly privately agreed that they would really prefer to avoid sacking Erik ten Hag.

According to ESPN, United don't want to part ways with the Dutchman after backing him with £200m in the summer transfer window.

The Red Devils also extended his contract by a year until 2026, significantly increasing his payout should he be dismissed.

But that may not stop the club from doing what they believe is best for business after today's meeting in London.

Ten Hag is still under massive pressure, regardless of whether he's in charge against Brentford on October 19.
