Liverpool boss Arne Slot told he got 'lucky' after Man Utd win

The Dutchman guided Liverpool to a resounding 3-0 win at Old Trafford, but not everyone was impressed how the Reds performed on Sunday.

Liverpool FC head coach Arne Slot is "lucky" to possess such quality in his squad after maintaining his perfect start to life at Anfield, according to Ronald Koeman.

The Dutchman succeeded Jurgen Klopp in the job back in June and was given the difficult task of winning over the club's passionate fanbase. They had fallen head over heels for his German predecessor, with Klopp serving for nearly nine years as their manager.

But Slot has proved his credentials on the pitch, guiding the Merseyside club to three wins out of three without conceding a goal. The 3-0 victory over Manchester United was their most impressive performance yet, with Luis Diaz scoring twice and Mohamed Salah wreaking havoc alongside the Colombian.

As a contrast, his compatriot Erik ten Hag is once again facing questions about his future following their heavy defeat at Old Trafford, with Slot's men showcasing their potential as title challengers.

Netherlands boss Koeman believes Slot is outperforming Ten Hag early on in his managerial reign at Anfield, but claimed the Reds boss is "lucky" to have been blessed with such a potent strikeforce.

When asked if he kept an eye on their match at Old Trafford, Koeman replied: "I watched because of the many Dutch players.

"Of course, I also looked at it from a manager's point of view. Arne Slot is doing a slightly better job. But if you have the front three that he has, you must realise you are lucky."

Koeman's comments may strike Liverpool fans as odd, considering they are yet to concede a goal at the back with Alisson Becker, Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold all excelling in recent weeks.

Slot's first game in charge resulted in a 2-0 win over newly-promoted Ipswich Town, before a comfortable 2-0 success over Brentford on his Anfield debut in the dugout.

But he watched his side dominate against a dismal United side on Sunday, where the scoreline could have easily been much more damaging for the hosts on another day.

And the 45-year-old declared himself pleased with what he saw, pointing at the character his side showed after seeing an early Alexander-Arnold goal ruled out.

"United started really aggressive and we had to find ourselves in that period but if you go to Old Trafford you know there will be tough moments," Slot told Sky Sports.

"We got ourselves through that. What I liked is that after we scored a great goal that was disallowed, we kept on playing in the same way as we did before.

"In the end, we scored some nice goals and we needed Alisson in the second half to make some important saves but it was a deserved win."
