Ex-Man Utd star's comments on Bruno Fernandes speak volumes after transfer announcement
Bruno Fernandes is a leader on and off the pitch at Man Utd.
Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes continued to display his leadership skills on and off the pitch with his farewell message to Facundo Pellistri earlier this week. And the 22-year-old winger's response served as proof of how highly Fernandes is regarded within the United dressing room.
Pellistri has completed a move away from Old Trafford, joining Greek giants Panathinaikos in a deal worth up to £7million.
He made 25 senior appearances for United after his £9m arrival from Penarol in 2020, registering two assists.
But the Uruguay international - already boasting 26 caps - has slipped down Erik ten Hag's winger pecking order.
Marcus Rashford, Amad, Alejandro Garnacho, Antony and Jadon Sancho appeared to be preferred to the starlet at the start of the campaign.
After United confirmed his exit, Pellistri sent a message to supporters on social media, writing: "Dear Reds, My time has come to say goodbye.
"It's been an incredible journey, full of unforgettable moments and experiences that I will cherish forever. Your unwavering support, both on and off the pitch, is something I will remember forever.
"I've grown as a player and as a person, and that's because of you. As you say, once a Red, always a Red.

"Manchester will always hold a special place in my heart. Wishing the club and all of you nothing but the best for the future."
Several of Pellistri's team-mates offered their love and well wishes, but Fernandes went out of his way to produce a separate Instagram post to pay tribute.
"Hermanito was a pleasure to meet you and play alongside you," Fernandes penned underneath three images of the pair together.
"If is there someone who deserves everything good in a football career is you! An example of professionalism and humility. Big things are coming to you soon I'm pretty sure."
In the comments, Pellistri responded: "The pleasure was mine to share and play with you! What a player, and, the most important thing, what a guy.
"Thank you for always being behind me and behind every player in this club, you are the definition of CAPTAIN!"
Fernandes is the heart of Sir Jim Ratcliffe's rebuild project at United and has committed his future to the club by signing a new contract until 2027, with the option of a further year.
The 29-year-old maestro has his critics, but his reputation among teammates and other figures at Old Trafford serves as proof of his credentials to wear the armband.
