Chelsea have reportedly reached a £20million agreement with Villarreal to sign their goalkeeper Filip Jorgensen, potentially piling pressure on last year's two senior stoppers Robert Sanchez and Djordje Petrovic.

Enzo Maresca has seemingly settled on Jorgensen as his new number one for the coming season, focused on playing out from the back, after Sanchez and Petrovic shared minutes under Mauricio Pochettino.

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano claims that a deal has been agreed upon to bring the Danish star to Stamford Bridge on a long-term contract.

Jorgensen has, however, become the eighth goalkeeper on Chelsea's books and the club now has some work to do in order to balance their numbers.

He joins Petrovic, Robert Sanchez, Kepa Arrizabalaga, Gabriel Slonina, Marcus Bettinelli, Lucas Bergstrom and Eddie Beach who will all battle out for a starting role, though many will still depart before the Premier League season gets underway.

After Wrexham scored twice past Chelsea in their pre-season friendly in the United States, Maresca was quizzed over whether a new goalkeeper was necessary - though stopped short of naming Jorgensen.

"We will see whether we need a new goalkeeper. I can't comment on [Jorgensen] or any individual name," Maresca said. "We have four goalkeepers... Petrovic has an injury. As long as the transfer window is open, anything can happen for us."

Jorgensen, 22, came through the Villarreal academy and enjoyed a breakthrough season in 2023/24 after making his La Liga debut in January.

Jorgensen penned a new Villarreal contract in June with a £38m release clause, but Chelsea have been able to strike a deal with the Spanish club to sign their goalkeeper for nearly half of that figure.

While the BBC have claimed that Chelsea have also agreed a £15.6m fee with Boca Juniors for defensive starlet Aaron Anselmino, who will return to the Argentinian giants on loan.
