FIFA president Sepp Blatter defends World Cup
FIFA president Sepp Blatter has defended the World Cup from criticism over empty seats and poor refereeing standards.
“We are bound by the best referees we have,” said Blatter. “ But naturally referees are human beings and they commit errors.” On the seating, Blatter said: “Yes, there were empty seats but not empty stadia. Don’t forget 95 per cent of all tickets have been sold.
“If you have seen empty seats, it came from hospitality, and we know hospitality does not work as we expected because there is not the enthusiasm for hospitality seats as in other World Cups. ”
