Everton tipped to get 'one out of three transfers' over the line on deadline day
Everton could be set to complete a deadline day signing in the final hours of the January window.
Everton could be set to complete a mystery signing before the January window slams shut, according to reports. The Toffees have only welcomed one new face to Goodison Park this month, with Kingsford Boakye joining the club's under-21 squad on a free transfer.
A number of players have been linked with Everton over the last few weeks, with Ajax forward Chuba Akpom said to be a potential target. The former Arsenal man has struggled for regular game time since moving to the Netherlands, making just three league starts and has been mentioned in connection with a January move to Merseyside.
Leicester City defender Harry Souttar has also emerged as a potential replacement for Ben Godfrey if the latter ends up leaving Everton before the window slams shut. Meanwhile, the Toffees have been linked with a move for highly-rated Benfica midfielder Florentino Luis, with TEAMtalk claiming that talks were initially held earlier in the window.
Sky Sports reporter Alan Myers has since hinted that Everton could seal at least one deadline-day move, but stopped short of giving any names. Responding to a fan on Wednesday night via X, formerly Twitter, he said: "Maybe one by tomorrow but don’t know who."
Everton could also see a handful of players leave before the end of the January window, with Mason Holgate reportedly set to undergo a medical ahead of a proposed loan move to Sheffield United. Amadou Onana has also been tipped to leave the club amid tentative links with Arsenal and Newcastle, but nothing is said to be imminent as things stand.
Sean Dyche was quizzed on Everton's plans for the closing stages of the window last week and refused to rule out the possibility of bringing players in, but was quick to stress that his main priority was keeping the squad intact.

"We want to keep all our best players here and make sure we are trying to at least manage the group we have got, then build on it if the right situation occurs where there can be some form of getting a deal done," said the Everton boss.
"But obviously, we have seen it is quite a difficult window, not just for us, but we have seen that with the amount of money having been spent compared to other windows. It is very low at the moment. It is very likely [that any deal would be on loan]."
