Liverpool tipped to interview Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou to replace Jurgen Klopp
Liverpool are on the hunt for a new manager as Jurgen Klopp is stepping down at the end of the campaign.
Liverpool have been tipped to interview Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou as they hunt for a new manager. Jurgen Klopp is set to leave his role as Liverpool boss at the end of the campaign following a nine-year spell on Merseyside, with a whole host of names being linked to the Anfield club as his replacement.
Klopp brought Liverpool their maiden Premier League title in 2020 after leading the team to Champions League and Club World Cup glory in 2019. He also guided the Reds to an FA Cup and Carabao Cup double in 2022, but announced his decision to step down last week due to the fact he is “running out of energy.”
Postecoglou only took the helm at Tottenham back in July following a successful spell in charge of Celtic. But the Australian has already revolutionised the Spurs team, with Tottenham playing some of their best football for years.
And Premier League icon Robbie Savage thinks Liverpool should be speaking to Postecoglou as well as Bayer Leverkusen boss Xabi Alonso as they look for Klopp’s successor.
“Ange Postecoglou is the other one [as well as Alonso] that I think comes into the reckoning,” Savage told Planet Sport Bet. “A lot of what he brought in at Spurs mirrors what Liverpool do, in that they have a high line in defence and also play high-energy, ‘heavy-metal’ football. For me, Postecoglou would be a great fit for Liverpool but I’m not sure it’s possible given the short amount of time he’s been at Spurs.
“If I was the director of football at Liverpool right now, the two names I’d want to interview would be Xabi Alonso and Ange Postecoglou. Both would suit the dynamic of Liverpool and would be great appointments, although I do think Alonso will more likely than not be the one that gets it.”

Liverpool are in the mix to win four trophies this season as they are five points clear at the top of the Premier League table and have booked their place in the Carabao Cup final. The Reds are also through to the knockout stages of the Europa League and have secured their place in the fifth round of the FA Cup.
And Savage added: “To win a quadruple in your manager’s last season would be the perfect way to send Jurgen Klopp on his way. He’s an icon of the city and of the football club and the players are motivated to do the best for him.”
