Liverpool have four-man shortlist to replace Fabinho but Moises Caicedo ruled out
Liverpool have four main options to replace the departing Fabinho.
Inside Liverpool's pre-season plans
As Fabinho's £40million move to Saudi Pro League side Al Ittihad edges closer, Liverpool are working hard to find a suitable replacement in defensive midfield. The Brazilian star was left out of the club's travelling squad for their pre-season camp in Baden-Wurttemberg, Germany and the Reds have reportedly drawn up a four-man shortlist to fill his boots.
According to the Athletic, Southampton's Romeo Lavia, Fiorentina's Sofyan Amrabat, Bayern Munich's Ryan Gravenberch and Kalvin Phillips of Manchester City are all potential options in the centre of the park. Meanwhile, Moises Caicedo is not viewed as such with the Brighton midfielder expected to join Chelsea.
Jurgen Klopp has already strengthened his midfield this summer with the signings of Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai. However, the Merseyside club lack options in the holding midfield role.
Club captain Jordan Henderson, who is comfortable playing deeper in a midfield trio, also looks set to depart meaning the need for a defensively-minded player is greater than ever.
Although the 33-year-old travelled with the squad on Saturday, discussions are still ongoing surrounding his next steps. Henderson has reportedly verbally agreed to a money-spinning three-year deal with Steven Gerrard’s Al Ettifaq worth close to £700,000 per week.
Yet with no fee agreed upon between the two clubs, his future remains uncertain. Sky Sports claim Henderson is weighing up how switching to Al Ettifaq would affect his future as an England international while there are also moral considerations to take into account.

The Sunderland man is one of the most vocal supporters of the LGBTQI+ community and has come under significant fire for considering a move to Saudi Arabia, where homosexuality is outlawed. Liverpool's LGBTQI+ fans group Kop Outs, tweeted: "Kop Outs have valued the allyship shown by Jordan Henderson.
"We are appalled and concerned that anyone might consider working for a sports washing operation for a regime where women & LGBT+ people are oppressed and that regularly tops the world death sentence table."
