Argentina midfielder Alexis Mac Allister has suggested that Lisandro Martinez will be 'pushing' for Alejandro Garnacho to represent Argentina amid a U20 World Cup row with Manchester United. Erik ten Hag is at risk of losing the 18-year-old winger for the remainder of the season.
Argentina U20 manager Javier Mascherano has named Garnacho in his preliminary squad for this summer's World Cup.
The tournament will take place in Argentina from May 20 to June 11, which would see Garnacho miss the Premier League run-in once he returns from an injury that has sidelined him for the last five weeks.
And, crucially, it would likely take him out of contention to feature in the June 3 FA Cup final against Manchester City at Wembley Stadium.
But reports claim that Garnacho has requested that Ten Hag lets him return to South America to represent his nation at the U20 World Cup.
Argentinian outlet Doble Amarilla have published quotes, stating: "I need to write my story with the Argentine shirt. I ask you please to let me go."

And Mac Allister, linked with a summer transfer to United, reckons Martinez could play a part in Garnacho's involvement.
In March, the Brighton and Hove Albion star rallied for the No 49 to make his senior Argentina debut and claimed Martinez would be too.
"Hopefully, he gets to play with the Argentina national team. I'm sure that Licha [Lisandro Martinez] is working on it," Mac Allister told TyC Sports.
Ten Hag's reluctance to lose Garnacho for the run-in comes as no surprise, given his impact in the Dutchman's maiden season at Old Trafford.

Garnacho has made 29 appearances throughout a breakthrough campaign, registering four goals and five assists.
He has scored four times in five Argentina U20 caps since switching his international allegiance from Spain, his country of birth.
And he is seemingly willing to sacrifice ending his United season on a high to help bring glory to the nation in the major youth tournament.
But Ten Hag will be desperate to add him to his attacking options, missing him since March 12 when he exited a 0-0 draw against Southampton early after coming on as a substitute.
