Real Madrid forward Karim Benzema wins Ballon d’Or for first time
Real Madrid have enjoyed a strong start to the season and could look to maintain their dominance in Europe by delving into the transfer market next year. Los Blancos secured a last 16 Champions League showdown with Liverpool after finishing top of Group F. And the Spanish giants are currently second in the La Liga table ahead of their trip to Real Valladolid on Friday.
Real bolstered their ranks in the summer by signing midfielder Aurelien Tchouameni and centre-back Antonio Rudiger. Boss Carlo Ancelotti, who led the club to the Champions League title last season, will be hoping to build an even stronger squad in 2023. And Express Sport takes a look at the latest transfer news from the Bernabeu Stadium.
Endrick joins
Real have already been busy in the transfer market and announced the signing of Brazilian wonderkid Endrick earlier this month. The 16-year-old, who currently plies his trade with Palmeiras in his homeland, will move to Spain in July 2024 after he turns 18.
Josko Gvardiol swoop
Real are reportedly preparing to swoop for RB Leipzig centre-back Josko Gvardiol, who is one of the hottest defenders in world football at the moment. The player has already won 19 caps for Croatia and helped his country reach the World Cup semi-finals earlier this month, despite being only 20 years old.
There have been suggestions that Gvardiol will bring in as much as £110million for Leipzig, with Chelsea and Manchester City also said to be interested in the star. But during the World Cup, the youngster said: “Real Madrid is the biggest club in the world, so who knows. Maybe one day I can play there. I know it's the biggest club in the world and how important it is to be linked to such a team.”
Kylian Mbappe latest
Madrid could well maintain their hopes of taking Kylian Mbappe to Spain. The 24-year-old France striker was tipped to quit Paris Saint-Germain earlier this year to link-up with his international team-mate Karim Benzema at the Bernabeu Stadium. But he stunned the football world by instead penning a new contract in his homeland.
Mbappe, who scored a hat-trick in the World Cup final, has reportedly been at loggerheads with the PSG board and is said to be considering an exit from the Parc des Princes. And next summer, Real could put their cards on the table and do everything in their power to finally get their hands on their man.

Jude Bellingham eyed
Real will also be keen to bolster their midfield next year and could turn to Jude Bellingham, who is regarded as one of the best young players in Europe. The 19-year-old, who starred for England at the World Cup, has been heavily liked with Real and Liverpool. And if the teenage sensation doesn’t fancy a return to his homeland, he could well opt for Madrid.
Enzo Fernandez battle
Real are also said to be involved in a battle with Liverpool to sign World Cup winner Enzo Fernandez. The 21-year-old Benfica midfielder started five matches for Argentina in Qatar, including the World Cup final, as his country saw off France in a penalty shootout.
According to reports, Real have identified Fernandez and Bellingham as their main targets next summer and could shell out mega money to get their hands on both the players.
