Liverpool told to copy Man Utd, Man City and Tottenham transfer policy
Liverpool could make a change in the coming transfer window.
Jurgen Klopp reviews Liverpool's win against Rangers at Ibrox
Liverpool have been told they need to adapt their current transfer policy and move closer to some of their Premier League rivals' models in order to improve Jurgen Klopp’s squad. The Reds owners Fenway Sports Group have come in for criticism from fans for not backing their head coach, despite breaking the bank to bring Darwin Nunez to the club for what could be a record fee.
Liverpool’s disappointing start to the season has highlighted weaknesses in their squad, which has seen Fabio Carvalho and Harvey Elliott play significant minutes in midfield, while Joe Gomez is set to deputise at right-back for the injured Trent Alexander-Arnold against Manchester City despite the club moving to bring in defender Calvin Ramsay from Aberdeen in the summer.
Former Reds defender Jose Enrique believes the Ramsay deal was a “cheap option” and urged Klopp’s side to adopt the same transfer policy as some of their rivals. “The main quality under Klopp has been the intensity,” Enrique told Midnite. “And then the quality of the players will do the rest. You could see they loved the intensity, they could kill the other team just pressing the whole game. But this season it hasn’t been there.
“Sometimes you need more competition in certain areas, Mo Salah has no one to compete for his position, neither does Trent. They signed Calvin Ramsay, but it’s a cheap option although maybe he can be good in the future. Teams like [Manchester] City, Manchester United and Tottenham are signing £20m plus players who are already established, I don’t know why Liverpool are not.
“I think they have a weaker squad than they had last season. You need to keep improving. You can lose [Sadio] Mane, even if I don’t understand it, but then they go for a 23-year-old from Portugal.
"It was the first season he played really well in Portugal, and then he’s coming here and you’re giving him all the pressure of a number nine at Liverpool, and you think he’s going to be like Mane?

“I think if they gave Klopp the money that I think he deserves, I believe Liverpool would have two or three more trophies. But they are out of the Premier League race. They have to focus on getting top-four.”
Outside of Nunez and a deadline-day loan move for Arthur Melo, Liverpool’s summer business comprised of budget moves for teenagers Carvalho and Ramsay, as the Scot has not featured for the first team yet partly due to injury.
The former Fulham playmaker has made an impact both from the start and off the bench however, including his dramatic late winner over Newcastle and aided the team during their injury crisis in midfield.
