FIFA 23 ratings: Five players EA Sports have got right - and five they've got wrong
FIFA 23 releases to the world on September 30, with the top players in the world now known.
FIFA 22 Ultimate Team trailer from EA Sports
FIFA 23 is out at the end of the month and, ahead of it’s release, EA Sports have revealed some of the ratings for the best players in the game. Robert Lewandowski, Karim Benzema, Kevin De Bruyne, Kylian Mbappe and Lionel Messi all lead the way due to their impressive form over the past 12 months. However, Express Sport will now take a look at five ratings they’ve got right - and five they’ve got wrong.
Right: Karim Benzema
Benzema has been in outstanding form for Real Madrid ever since the departure of Cristiano Ronaldo back in the summer transfer window of 2018.
The France international was unstoppable last term, netting 44 goals from 46 appearances across all competitions as Los Blancos won the Champions League.
Benzema’s overall rating has risen by two to 91, while his pace, shooting, passing and physical attributes have all been boosted as well.
Wrong: Lionel Messi
We’re not disputing that Messi remains one of the world’s best players.
But if Cristiano Ronaldo has been downgraded to 90, then the Argentina international should share the same score.
Messi managed 26 goal involvements last term, while Ronaldo was able to net 24 times and register three assists. In our opinion, both players should be on 90.

Right: Kevin De Bruyne
There’s arguably no better playmaker in the whole of world football than Kevin De Bruyne.
He was vital as Manchester City won the Premier League title last year and, at the age of 31, is set to play a big role in the coming years ahead as well.
At 91, De Bruyne’s rating is justified. Whether he can help City end their agonising wait for the Premier League title, however, remains to be seen.
Wrong: Neymar
Neymar has been marked down from 91 to 89 after an injury-plagued campaign last time out.
But one bad season doesn’t mean he deserves to be demoted by two, especially given the impressive start he’s made to the current campaign.
The Samba star has 14 goal involvements from seven Ligue 1 matches already this term, showing class is permanent - and injuries and a slight dip in form is temporary.
Right: Thibaut Courtois
Another player to have their statistics boosted is Thibaut Courtois.
Given how impressive he was as Los Blancos won the Champions League, that’s certainly understandable.
The Belgium international has experienced some difficult moments since moving to the Bernabeu from Chelsea in 2018 but, four years on, there’s no doubting his class and talent now.
Wrong: Casemiro
We’re not quiet sure how Casemiro’s stats have been downgraded. Though he boasts the same 89 rating as on FIFA 22, the Brazil international was vital for Madrid as they won Europe’s biggest prize.
He may be approaching the twilight years of his career, but that doesn’t necessarily mean he needs a downgrade.
Casemiro is a class act and is expected to come good for Manchester United once he’s given a run of games, instead of being left on the bench.
Right: Mohamed Salah
Yes, Mohamed Salah has endured a quiet start to the season so far amid Liverpool’s inconsistent form.
But the Egypt international was borderline unplayable last term, with the Egypt international bagging 31 goals from 51 games and registering 16 assists along the way.
Salah has gone up one rating to 90, which makes sense given how explosive he was for Jurgen Klopp as his side won two trophies last term.
Wrong: Erling Haaland
Erling Haaland has been given a rating of 88, the same as last year.
But the Norway international deserves to share Mbappe’s score of 91, especially given the outrageous start he’s made to his Manchester City career.
He’s already scored 12 goals from just eight appearances at the Etihad Stadium, showing he’ll be a contender for the Golden Boot or even perhaps the Ballon d’Or come the end of the season.
Right: N’Golo Kante
N’Golo Kante has been one of the world’s best midfielders for some time, now, shining for Leicester, France and Chelsea over the past six years or so.
But injuries have started to hamper the 2018 World Cup winner, restricting his game time in the process.
Given Kante remains class, his score dropping from 89 to 90 is no surprise. It’s still a reflection of his ability, when fully fit and firing.
Wrong: Harry Kane
Harry Kane scored 17 goals from 37 Premier League matches last term, five short of the number he managed the previous campaign.
But that, in part, is due to the fact the England international has become more of an all-round player.
Kane doesn’t deserve to be penalised for that so the 29-year-old maintaining his 90 rating, instead of dropping to 89, would have made more sense instead.
