Steve Bruce leaves position as Newcastle head coach
Newcastle are expected to be busy in the January transfer window in a bid to bolster their squad and avoid relegation. Steve Bruce's reign in charge ended just weeks after the £305million takeover by the Saudi-led consortium.
The new owners took their time in finding a replacement for Bruce, with a host of names being linked with the vacant post.
Eventually the decision was made to bring in Howe, who had been out of work since leaving Bournemouth in August 2020.
The 43-year-old has been working with the players who aren't away on international duty ahead of his first game in charge this weekend.
But the international break would have also presented Howe with an opportunity to understand where he wants the focus to be on in the January transfer window.
