Koeman won honours galore in his time as a player in Catalonia, including four consecutive La Liga titles and scoring the winning goal to clinch the 1991-92 European Cup.
However, his exploits in the dugout compared to his exploits on the pitch at Barcelona are extremely contrasting, with chiefs unhappy at his performance.
And with his career on a knife-edge, Express Sport looks at four managers who could replace him in the managerial role.
Antonio Conte
Conte has a reputation for having short stays at football clubs, which would not be ideal if Barcelona need someone to drag them out of the current mire they find themselves in.

But with virtually guaranteed success at said clubs - with a league title at each of his last three clubs (Chelsea, Inter Milan and Juventus), there may be a need for a short-term appointment.
Conte would get the best out of the Barcelona players even if it was a short-term appointment and as such his arrival may not seem out of the question.
Xavi
When looking at Koeman, you would think the club would think twice if they were to appoint club legend Xavi.
The diminutive midfielder was instrumental in Barcelona's most successful period ever, forming a superb relationship with Andres Iniesta and Sergio Busquets as they won three Champions League titles in six seasons.

However, having been Belgium manager for five seasons there may be no reason for Martinez to move.
Patrick Kluivert
Kluivert would be the strangest managerial appointment on this list after not actually holding down a club role - despite being 45 years of age.
The Dutchman knows the club well having played for the Blaugrana from 1998 to 2004, and having been the director of the La Masia academy over the last two seasons.
However, having only managed Curacao for a season, it would be a rogue appointment should Barcelona chiefs decide to appoint him.
