I’ll turn into St Legend
SEAN ST LEDGER wants Giovanni Trapattoni to give him the chance to become a goalscoring legend in the World Cup play-offs.
Middlesbrough defender St Ledger almost achieved that feat last Saturday with a headed goal that looked to have given Ireland a famous win against Italy.
But Alberto Gilardino found an equaliser to end Ireland’s hopes of finishing top of Group Eight.
St Ledger, who did not go up for corners in Ireland’s goalless draw with Montenegro on Wednesday, said: “I wanted to, but the boss wanted a clean sheet. Hopefully if it is 0-0 in the next couple of games, I will get to go forward. He knows a lot better than me.”
Ireland will face either Portugal, Greece, Russia or France in the play-off draw which will be made next Monday.
