Jadon Sancho: Man Utd 'only potential buyer' says expert
Manchester United legend Dimitar Berbatov doesn't expect his former club to sign Jadon Sancho before the last few days of the summer transfer window. Sancho has been United's top target for months following some impressive performances at Borussia Dortmund, where he has recorded a total of 34 goals and 43 assists in 99 appearances across all competitions.
But the Red Devils' haggling with Dortmund has hit a snag as the Premier League giants are reluctant to meet the player's astronomical asking price.
That is why Berbatov expects the transfer saga to drag on for much longer and may not be finalised until October 5 when the summer transfer window slams shut.
The former United star is no stranger to last-minute transfers as he also joined the Red Devils from Tottenham on deadline day in 2008.
Berbatov told the Manchester Evening News: "If they're going to bring any new strikers - like they're connected with Sancho for a long time now - if that's going to happen probably we're going to find out in the last days of the transfer window.

"Chelsea are doing some good business at the moment, they'll be challenging the top teams. We will find out who is going and who is staying in the last two or three days of the transfer window.
"Sancho is a good alternative if it's not too much money to spend on that signing, [then] go for it."

"It's always good to have as many good players as possible, although then you're going to have a problem of trying to rotate them, try to keep them happy - everyone - which is at times an impossible job, trust me. Everybody is going to be questioning their minds.
"But if they decide to go and take [Sancho] I'm not going to blame them because Sancho is English, would probably like to go to England, for United, and that'll be a good deal for them.
"If they don't, they have three players - Rashford, Martial, Greenwood, they have [Odion] Ighalo as well, who is a great back-up for the moment, too. So I think up there they're pretty much covered.
"With Liverpool, you have [Sadio] Mane, [Roberto] Firmino and [Mohamed] Salah, so you have three main strikers which are playing every game and they know that.

"And whoever is after them, he knows he's going to be on the bench, [Divock] Origi or whoever is there. So this is straight from the top: these are my three top guys, they play all the time.
"So in United, at the moment, they have Martial, Rashford and Greenwood. Are they going to be the top three strikers every game?
"I don't know, we'll see. But if they bring a fourth then the manager gets a bit of a luxury problem where he has to keep everyone happy, as I said before.
"But let's not forget if I'm not mistaken back in the time, Andy Cole, Dwight Yorke, Teddy Sheringham and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer played in the same team, so it's proof it can work as long as everybody knows his position in the team."
