Harry Maguire can travel back to UK as Man Utd star gets new court date set in Greece
Manchester United skipper Harry Maguire will reportedly be allowed to travel back to the UK but faces a new court date.
Harry Maguire: Man United captain leaves court in Greece
Manchester United captain Harry Maguire will reportedly go on trial in Greece on Tuesday, August 25 following an alleged fight outside a pub on the party island of Mykonos.
Maguire was arrested in the early hours of Friday morning and spent two nights in a police cell.
The 27-year-old walked 'free' from court today and local reports claim he will be allowed to return to the UK to prepare for United's upcoming Premier League season if his appointed legal team represent him in court.
Greece's judicial system is different to Britain's and no journalists were allowed into the courtroom.
That means there is no clarity on what was said or what charges, if any, the England international faces.
Maguire will not be forced to return for his next hearing on Tuesday, according to Sport Time, as his lawyer Constantine Darivas will be present.
Local reports suggest Maguire and his friends fought with another group of Englishmen and police officers. He denies the allegations.
Maguire refused to answer questions outside of court but his lawyer revealed the centre-back was a free man "for now".
A statement released by the Hellenic Police's South Aegean region press office on Friday afternoon read: "Patrolling police officers in the area of Mykonos intervened and normalised a dispute between citizens.
"However, three foreigners involved in the incident turned against them, insulting and hitting a police officer with fists.
"The three foreigners were taken to the Mykonos Police Station, where upon their arrival they strongly resisted, pushing and beating three police officers.
"One of the detainees then tried to offer money so that the trial against them would not be completed. The arrested (men) were taken to the Syros Prosecutor's Office."
United have been in contact with their skipper and released a statement of their own yesterday.
"The club is aware of an alleged incident involving Harry Maguire in Mykonos last night," it read.
"Contact has been made with Harry, and he is fully co-operating with the Greek authorities.
"At this time we will be making no further comment."
