Cresswell battling the boos
Sheffield United 1 Doncaster 1
Richard Cresswell is starting to win over the Sheffield United boo boys after marking his first start with a derby day equaliser.
Cresswell had a spell with United’s rivals Wednesday a decade ago – and was barracked by some Blades fans when he made his debut as a sub against Ipswich last Tuesday.
But the striker, on a three-month loan from Stoke, has declared himself “100 per cent Blade” and proved it by cancelling out James Hayter’s first-half opener.
Cresswell had to be brave to score it, colliding with the far post as he closed in to head home Glen Little’s right-wing cross. But it had his new fans cheering and forced their dogged South Yorkshire neighbours to settle for a fourth successive draw.
They frustrated the Blades during an abysmal first half, then nosed in front just before the interval.
Hayter took on Dean Shiels’ pass and steered a shot beyond keeper Mark Bunn.
