Man Utd: Fernandes is player of the season claims pundit
Manchester United star Bruno Fernandes has a phenomenal penalty record - but his technique has been criticised by beIN SPORTS presenter Richard Keys. Fernandes scored a consolation goal from the spot for United in the 3-1 FA Cup semi-final loss to Chelsea on Sunday. Similar to the technique adopted by Chelsea midfielder Jorginho, the United midfielder stuttered in his run up, jumped and placed the ball in the opposite direction of the goalkeeper's dive.
Fernandes has already scored five penalties for United since his arrival from Sporting Lisbon in January.
The 25-year-old has been a regular taker in his career and has only ever missed two, the last of which coming in October 2018 for Sporting against GS Loures in the Portuguese cup.
That means Fernandes has scored the last 16 penalties he has taken.
However, he was still questioned after the match against Chelsea.
Key's beIN SPORTS colleague Andy Gray said: "Quite a unique little way to take penalties, isn't it?

But Keys cannot understand why Solskjaer chose the XI he did.
"As far as Manchester United are concerned next year, and when I say Europe I mean Champions League next year," Keys said.
"So I get it that he's concentrating on that but yes [Chelsea are in the same situation] and the counter argument is you're in the semi-final, there's two games left in the league to come, I don't see this as a distraction at this stage, particularly when the boys have been off for the best part of two months."
