Man Utd's potential squad for next season if Solskjaer wields axe and makes three signings
Manchester United are looking to refresh Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's squad for next season.
Man Utd: Solskjaer says team are ‘always looking to improve’
Manchester United could be set for a busy summer of transfer activity to build on the progress they have made since the turn of the year.
The Red Devils are one of the form teams of 2020 and their fine run of results pre and post-lockdown has them in contention to qualify for next season's Champions League.
A return to the top table of European football would help attract the best players and boost their financial position amid the coronavirus crisis.
Ed Woodward has preached caution about the economic situation posed by the COVID-19 pandemic.
But United legend Gary Neville believes a number of quality additions are needed to make the next step - and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer agrees with his former team-mates assessment.

He said: "Gary is right in a lot of things he says and of course we cannot think we’re there.
"If you look at the table, we’re nowhere near where we should be. Consistency has to be improved and we still have to improve on many aspects of the game.
"I don’t know how many points we’re behind the top two, but Gary’s right - there’s definitely not going to be any complacency and thinking, ‘We’ve cracked it’ because we’ve got so much to do.
"It’s an enjoyable journey. We can see improvements but, yes, we need to make one or two - or more - very good decisions. It’s going to be an important summer, definitely."
Express Sport takes a look at the squad that could be at Solskjaer's disposal next term.
The goalkeeping department is set to remain the same as this season, with Dean Henderson likely to spend another campaign out on loan.
The defence could see a number of changes as the club will look to raise funds by selling the deadwood.
Chris Smalling and Marcos Rojo are likely to be granted permanent exits while Phil Jones is set to be dumped after falling down the pecking order amid interest from West Ham.
Aston Villa's Tyrone Mings is one of three defenders on Solskjaer's wish list - and could be available for a cut-price fee if the Championship play-off winners suffer an instant return to the second tier.
Midfielder Juan Mata has been linked with a move to Fenerbahce - and the club could sanction his departure in a bid to raise some cash before his contract expires next year.
He could be replaced in the squad by Mings' team-mate Jack Grealish, who is one of Solskjaer's top targets.
Express Sport understands Grealish has already started looking for houses in the North West ahead of a potential move to Old Trafford.
There could also be a loan for James Garner, who is highly rated by the club's coaches.
Inter Milan are eager to extend forward Alexis Sanchez's loan but Old Trafford officials want to dump him permanently.
While a new forward is fancied by Solskjaer, Odion Ighalo's loan extension until January is likely to see that search paused for the time being.
There could be a new forward at the Norwegian's disposal, however, if top target Jadon Sancho is signed from Borussia Dortmund.
The England international has agreed in principle personal terms with the Red Devils but a fee has yet to be agreed between the two clubs.
