Chelsea squad to beat Liverpool to Premier League title next season with FIVE transfers
Chelsea could beat Liverpool to the Premier League title with a squad containing five new faces if Frank Lampard is backed in the summer transfer window.
Chelsea: Defeat to West Ham was ‘not a surprise’ says Lampard
Chelsea could compete with Liverpool next season in the Premier League with a new-look squad and five new additions. Frank Lampard has already completed the signings of Hakim Ziyech and Timo Werner but could add another three new faces with a few leaving Stamford Bridge as well.
The Blues are currently over 30 points behind the new Premier League champions and have a lot of work to do to catch Jurgen Klopp's side.
But with Ziyech and Werner already joining Chelsea they have immediately boosted their chances.
Leicester left-back Ben Chilwell is the next name to be linked with the Blues and he has reportedly told the Foxes he wants to be allowed to leave.
Lampard also believes West Ham ace Declan Rice can lead the backline despite him playing in central midfield for the Hammers this season.
The other name constantly being linked with Chelsea is none other than Bayer Leverkusen ace Kai Havertz.
A bid of over £80m may be needed to secure the signature of the highly-rated 21-year-old though who is also wanted by Manchester United and Liverpool.
Havertz has netted 16 goals and provided nine assists in all competitions this season.
Paul Merson believes a left-back and a central defender should be the priority for Chelsea in the transfer window having wrapped up deals for Ziyech and Werner.
"I think Chelsea need a left-back, and they might need another centre-half, and then they'll be a major force next season," Merson told Sky Sports.

"I don't think they'll win the Premier League next season, but the gap won't be as big.
"They mean business. The owner has been brilliant; he's weighed it up and gone - bang! Here's your money.
"He's looked at the situation and thought, 'Tottenham are struggling, Pep Guardiola won't be at City forever,' and he's trying to get into the top four, close the gap and challenge when they have their chance.
"With Liverpool putting up records like they have with their players being as good as they are, it's only a matter of time before the likes of Barcelona and Real Madrid come calling.
"In three or four years, I'd be quite shocked if Chelsea don't win the Premier League."
