Southgate bears the brunt
CHRIS BRUNT scored twice as West Brom sent a chilling warning to their promotion rivals and left a question mark over Middlesbrough boss Gareth Southgate’s future.
Albion strengthened their grip at the top by demolishing the team that started the day in second spot.
But new signings Sean St Ledger and Caleb Folan must be wondering just how Boro climbed so high.
And while chairman Steve Gibson will remain faithful to Southgate, the Middlesbrough manager knows this is the sort of scoreline that can lead to P45s being handed out.
After Brunt’s double on 18 and 31 minutes, Youssouf Mulumbu put Roberto Di Matteo’s men further ahead three minutes before the break.
And the rout was completed with late goals from Roman Bednar and Jerome Thomas.
