Cleverly does it
MANCHESTER United starlet Tom Cleverly left Plymouth bottom to pile the pressure on boss Paul Sturrock.
Watford’s on-loan midfielder struck in the fourth minute, firing home from a Don Cowie corner.
With Barnsley winning 3-2 at Derby, the result put the Pilgrims bottom, leaving Sturrock’s future in major doubt.
But Plymouth can count themselves unlucky with England Under-21 goalkeeper Scott Loach producing three superb point-blank saves to take the sting out of Argyle’s fightback.
Struggling Sturrock had hardly sat down in the dug-out when Cleverly struck.
It could have been a hammer blow after such a dismal start to the season. But Plymouth roared back, testing Loach to the limit as they looked for a breakthrough.
He denied Jamie Mackie twice, before keeping out a drive from Cillian Sheridan.
Sheridan did beat Loach on the hour but the keeper’s luck held as the shot hit the post.
