Erling Haaland had been heavily linked with a move to Manchester United.
Erling Haaland: Marcotti discusses player's transfer options
Manchester United have lost out in the battle to sign Erling Haaland with Borussia Dortmund snapping up the talented striker, and rival fans have had a field day at the Red Devils expense. Haaland had become the most sought after teenager in world football due to his dazzling display in the Austrian Bundesliga for Red Bull Salzburg.
The striker had proved a sensation in the Champions League as well with eight goals - only Robert Lewandowski finished the group stages with more.
His performances attracted the attention of some of Europe’s biggest clubs, with United emerging as favourites for his signature.
A part of their advantage was thought to be due to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s connections with Haaland after the two worked together at Molde.
Juventus and Paris Saint-Germain had also been touted in recent days while Red Bull Leipzig remained a possibility.
