Chelsea: Lampard says he wants 'top calibre' players at club
Chelsea legend Ashley Cole believes it is a necessity for his former club to improve in the January transfer window. Chelsea are now able to sign players after FIFA cut their transfer ban in half earlier this month. Blues boss Frank Lampard has been reiterating that he does not want to upset his young squad with knee-jerk signings next month.

“Yeah they went through a bad period, we knew that was going to happen.
“But now, how can Frank motivate them and get them mentally and physically ready for the demands of today?”
Meanwhile, Manchester United legend Gary Neville says being able to make signings may not be the best thing for Lampard this season.
Neville said: “I’m sure he’s happy in one way that obviously the transfer ban is lifted but it would have actually been a more simple season for him to have the players that he had, and work with them and continue to believe in them younger players.

“Whereas if you bring two or three players in, then you do end up potentially changing quicker than you would do if you didn’t have those players available.
“Sometimes you sign a player and they have a right to go into a team it feels and sometimes younger players get left out and they don’t get the development path.
“It’s good for Chelsea that they’ve had the transfer ban lifted, I do think they need players, but also there is a downside to it potentially for Frank that could cause him a problem.”
