Arsenal went into the game on the back of a 3-0 hammering at Manchester City last weekend, where they were on the receiving end of a Kevin De Bruyne masterclass.
However, interim boss Freddie Ljungberg was able to secure a point in what initially appeared to be a tough test at Goodison Park.
Arsenal were still a far cry from their usual swashbuckling selves, however, and it's evident that Arteta has plenty of work to do in north London.
So we now take a look at three things the Arsenal manager should do in the wake of his side's draw on Merseyside.

Get the attackers firing
Arsenal will be happy with a point but, once again, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang appeared to struggle.
The Gabon international's form has concerningly dropped off in recent times and there's a sense that he may have his mind on a move away elsewhere.
Aubameyang wasn't the only Arsenal attacker to find himself stuck against the Toffees, however.
Gabriel Martinelli struggled on the left flank while Reiss Nelson looked inaffective on the opposite wing.
Arsenal haven't scored enough goals under Ljungberg and that's something Arteta will have to address if his side are to have any hope of finishing in the Premier League top four.
Arsenal's defence has let them down on countless occasions this season.
What hasn't helped is the constant rotation going on, with the likes of David Luiz, Sokratis, Calum Chambers, Shkodran Mustafi and Rob Holding all struggling at various points this term.
Against Everton, however, Arteta may have found a solution.
Luiz and Chambers looked solid at the back and were successful in nullifying the threat of Everton duo Richarlison and Dominic Calvert-Lewin.
Arteta will need to find a solid axis going forward if Arsenal are to pick up the points.

Get the style back
While Arsenal will be happy with the point, it was another afternoon where they failed to really pose a goal threat.
Despite having more of the ball, they managed just six shots on goal. Everton, who had less possession, managed eight.
Arsenal used to be a swashbuckling side, one easy on the eye during the days where Arsene Wenger ruled the roost.
And Arteta needs to bring that back, something the former Manchester City coach has already vowed to do so early into his Emirates reign.
