Preston in Barnsley whitewash
SIMON DAVEY’S troubles continued as Paul Parry’s first goal in Preston colours sentenced struggling Barnsley to another defeat.
Parry a £250,000 signing from Cardiff, opened the scoring in the 11th minute before Neil Mellor doubled the lead before half-time.
Barnsley, who gave Iain Hume his first start since suffering an horrific head injury last November, carved out a string of chances.
Kayode Odejayi was denied by Andy Lonergan’s fifth-minute save, while defender Darren Moore went close with a powerful header.
Yet Preston were far more clinical in front of goal and sealed a comfortable victory in the 72nd minute through Jon Parkin’s deflected effort.
It was a bitter pill to swallow for Barnsley boss Davey, a former Preston player. His side have now won just once in their last 12 Championship outings, while their record at Oakwell is abysmal – just two league wins in 2009.
