I’m a Celeb: Ian Wright says he’d ‘pay a grand for a Creme Egg’
Ian Wright was playing semi-professional football with Greenwich Borough in 1985 when he spotted by Crystal Palace scouts.
After impressing on trial at Selhurst Park he then signed his first professional contract just before his 22nd birthday.
Wright went on to score 117 goals in 277 appearances for the Eagles, making him their third-highest goalscorer ever.
Arsenal came calling in 1991, paying a club record fee at the time of £2.5million.
Wright spend seven seasons in north London and was the club’s top scorer in six of those campaigns.
He found the back of the net 185 times in 288 games for the Gunners.
The striker left Arsenal in the summer of 1998 and had brief spells at West Ham, Celtic and Burnley before calling time on his career in 2000.
Wright also earned 33 caps for England, scoring nine goals.
Since retiring, Wright has found success working in television and radio.
He has presented a variety of TV shows and regularly features as a pundit on BBC’s Match of the Day.
Now, though, the former football star will take on the jungle after being announced as one of the contestants on I’m A Celebrity 2019.
“The football fraternity will be watching,” said Wright.
“Not only do they want to see me do well, but for the ones who may not be so keen on me, will want to see me go through stuff that they would never dream of.
“And it’s the Spurs fans’ opportunity to get me back. I’ve caused them so much heartache.”
