Gannon’s targeting top six
MOTHERWELL boss Jim Gannon has seen enough in his squad to back them to finish in the top six this season.
Well face St Johnstone, managed by Gannon’s former Stockport County team-mate Derek McInnes, in Saturday’s opener.
And the Irishman believes his players are more than capable of bettering last season’s seventh-place finish in the SPL.
He said: “There’s a certain optimism and excitement that we may well finish in the top six.
“This squad has been dismantled and the squad that was here last year was only able to maintain seventh place, so we’d like to think first and foremost we’d at least achieve that.
“Then we’d look to strive further over the course of this season and next by bringing young players forward who can make this club much more competitive over the next 18 to 24 months.”
