Steven Gerrard urges his Rangers stars to use Aberdeen heartbreak against Hearts
Steven Gerrard wants his players to remember last year's heartbreak as they prepare to face Hearts at Hampden tomorrow.
Rangers boss Steven Gerrard wants his players to use last season’s heartbreak against Aberdeen as inspiration tomorrow.
The ‘Gers take on Hearts at Hampden Park in the Betfair Cup semi-final.
If they win, they could face Celtic in an Old Firm Derby clash in the final.
They go into the game off the back of back-to-back wins against Motherwell and Ross County in the league.
And Gerrard wants his players to be the “best Rangers” they can and to tap into the memory of last year’s disappointment.
“I’d be delighted for the players if we reached the final,” said the boss. “There is no one on this planet who wants to see these players be successful more than me.
“I will be really proud if they get the job done.
“The players need to tap into the memory of how it felt getting on that team bus at Hampden after we were knocked out by Aberdeen last season.
“It wasn’t so much our performance on the day as our game management and maybe a lack of quality in the final third.
“I want the players to tap into that but focus on the job in hand.
“The challenge for the players is can we find the best Rangers? Can we be Rangers on the day?
“Everyone has seen how that looks and how good that can be.
“If we find that then I’m sure we’ll get the outcome we all want.”
Gerrard could welcome back Allan McGregor and Borna Barisic for the clash with Hearts.
Both stars had injury scares during the week, but Gerrard is hopeful the duo will be able to play.
