Liverpool team news: Predicted 4-3-3 line up vs Tottenham – Matip, Alexander-Arnold latest
Liverpool will hope to welcome Joel Matip and Trent Alexander-Arnold back to the starting XI against Tottenham at Anfield on Sunday (4.30pm).
Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp is waiting on the fitness of Joel Matip and Trent Alexander-Arnold ahead of the Reds’ return to Premier League action.
The duo sat out Wednesdays’ 4-1 win over Genk due to a knee issue and illness respectively, but Klopp suggested the pair are in contention to return this weekend.
The Liverpool boss is expected to give both Matip and Alexander-Arnold every chance to prove their fitness before Tottenham’s visit to Anfield, with James Milner and Dejan Lovren potentially making way.
Speaking ahead of the win over Genk, Klopp said: “Trent is ill and Joel is not ready.
“It is just a little thing which usually settles in the two weeks [Matip] had; it did, but then it came up after the United game and so now we just have to make sure this time it settles finally, that’s all.
“It is not a massive injury, it’s just a bit annoying for him and he cannot do it [face Genk].
“Trent got ill overnight; hopefully he can recover quickly, but for tomorrow there was no chance.”
Klopp will hope both players can return to the back four alongside Virgil van Dijk and Andrew Robertson.
However, Joe Gomez is another alternative both at right-back and in central defence after being snubbed in midweek.
Jordan Henderson and Georginio Wijnaldum are expected to replace Naby Keita and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain in midfield, despite the latter’s brace against Genk.
Mohamed Salah returned from injury in midweek and should start once more, partnering Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino in attack.
Adam Lallana is in good form after his equaliser against Manchester United last weekend and offers an option off the bench but Nathaniel Clyne and Xherdan Shaqiri are both sidelined.
