Man Utd fans turn on Ole Gunnar Solskjaer after Europa League comment - ‘I’ll be stunned’
Manchester United fans have blasted Ole Gunnar Solskjaer for stating that the Red Devils can still qualify for next season’s Champions League by finishing in the top four, ahead of their Europa League match against Partizan Belgrade.
Man Utd: Solskaer says team can still finish in top four
Manchester United fans have reacted hilariously to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s latest comments about qualifying for next season’s Champions League.
The manager was stating that the club will be taking the Europa League seriously this season, as it’s a route into Europe’s premium club competition.
But, he added that United are still aiming to finish in the top four of the Premier League this season, which presents them another route of qualification for next year’s Champions League.
Fans were quick to predict that they wouldn’t be finishing in the top four, after a disappointing start to the season.
It's cute that he thinks he can win the Europa league
Speaking ahead of Thursday’s match against Partizan (5.55pm), Solskjaer said: “The Europa League is important for us. The last time we were in it, we won it.
“[Qualifying for] the Champions League next season is an aim, so whether it's through the top four or the Europa League, it doesn't matter.”
One United fan responded on Twitter: “Have an odd feeling we’re not getting top 4."
Another supporter said: “I’ll be stunned if we somehow qualified for the Champions League."
“It’s not going to be through top four, is it?,” added one Red Devils fan.
“If we get top 4 I’ll eat my shoe,” said one Twitter user.
“It's cute that he thinks he can win the Europa league,” responded another United supporter.
“Europa league is our only chance to get in to champions league,” said one fan.
United find themselves in 14th place in the Premier League table after nine matches.
They haven’t won a match in 90 minutes in all competitions since their 1-0 win over Astana, more than a month ago.
Solskjaer hasn’t seen his side win in the Premier League for four matches, and they have since lost away at West Ham United and Newcastle United.
If they were to win in Belgrade on Thursday, it’ll be their first win on the road in all competitions since March.
