Gary Neville was arguing with Liverpool hero Graeme Souness about Man Utd’s attacking options after the draw at Old Trafford.
Liverpool: Jurgen Klopp reacts to draw against Man United
Gary Neville has identified the one Liverpool player he loves “to bits” after he watched his former side share the spoils with their bitter rivals.
Marcus Rashford’s opener was cancelled out by a late Adam Lallana strike as Liverpool’s gap at the top of the Premier League over Manchester City was reduced to six points.
After the match, Neville became embroiled in a heated argument with Souness about Manchester United’s attacking options.
He claimed that you do not need a goalscoring striker who nets you a significant amount of goals to succeed.
Souness strongly disagreed, which saw Neville cite the sale of Romelu Lukaku, who he considered one of the best goalscorers in world football.
To back up his point, the Sky Sports pundit revealed his love for one of Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool stars.
“They will play the way they want to play and sign a striker to suit that style,” he said in the Sky Sports studio.
“Liverpool play with three mobile strikers.
“Firmino doesn’t score 25 goals every year.
“He does an unbelievable job, I love him to bits, but he doesn’t score 25 goals.
“We had strikers at Manchester United who didn’t score 25, 30 goals but they did brilliant jobs.
“You can still win without a striker that scores 25, 30 goals.”
Firmino has made the false nine role his own, forging himself into a unique style of forward with a reputation across world football for his idiosyncrasies.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was willing to offload both Lukaku and Alexis Sanchez, despite not bringing in replacements.
The decision has at times limited United in attack, but on Sunday Rashford proved he is worthy of his manager’s faith.
United remain 13th in the table, seven points adrift on Chelsea in fourth.
