Jamie Carragher explains why Liverpool will be ‘delighted’ at Man Utd draw
Manchester United held Liverpool to a 1-1 draw at Old Trafford on Sunday.
Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher believes his former side will be “delighted” with the 1-1 draw at rivals Manchester United.
Liverpool left it late to grab a point at Old Trafford on Sunday but saw their winning run in the Premier League end at 17 matches.
Adam Lallana tapped home from close range to cancel out Marcus Rashford’s controversial first-half opener.
Carragher, who was co-commentating on the match for Sky Sports, says Liverpool would not have accepted a point before kick off.
I think Liverpool will be delighted
However, after being behind for 45 minutes, he says manager Jurgen Klopp will be more than happy with the outcome.
“I think Liverpool will be delighted,” Carragher said.
“Maybe before the game would they settle for a draw? I don’t think so, no.
“I do think Liverpool supporters lost it a little bit in terms of winning this game and coming here and winning comfortably.
“That was the talk before the game and I thought it was absolute nonsense.
“It’s very difficult for Liverpool or any team to come to Old Trafford.
“It’s a derby game, Liverpool’s record’s not great here. And for whatever reason, as I mentioned in commentary, it almost feels like certain Liverpool players have a mental block when they come here.
“So to get out with one point out of this game, considering how they performed, I think that man there [Klopp] will be really pleased.”
The draw means Liverpool are now six points clear of Manchester City at the top of the Premier League table.
The Reds started the weekend eight points ahead of Pep Guardiola’s side but City did their job by beating Crystal Palace 2-0 at Selhurst Park on Saturday.
Liverpool are next in league action next Sunday when struggling Tottenham visit Anfield.
