Chelsea fans hijack tweet to urge Frank Lampard selection change for Newcastle game
Chelsea fans have urged manager Frank Lampard on Twitter to add striker Olivier Giroud to his starting line-up for the Premier League match against Newcastle on Saturday.
Chelsea supporters have begged Frank Lampard to give Olivier Giroud more playing time at Stamford Bridge.
Fans hijacked a tweet from the club’s official Twitter account in order to urge the manager to add him to his starting XI.
Giroud has only started one match this season for Chelsea; the 1-1 draw against Leicester City earlier in the campaign.
But, he’s failed to make an appearance in the Blues’ past five league fixtures, and wasn’t even included in the squad for the past three matches.
One of the most under-rated players of this Era
Chelsea’s Twitter account tweeted a link to an article on the club’s website, detailing five facts about the striker that fans may not know.
But, Blues supporters responded to the tweet with claims that Giroud is “underrated”, and should be given more playing time.
“Should play him more,” said one Chelsea fan.
“One of the most under-rated players of this Era,” added another supporter.
One Chelsea fan tweeted: “should start imo”, while another said: “The man will go down as one of the best ever.”
“He needs to play more,” commented a Chelsea supporter. “Underrated baller imo,” said one fan.
“Don't ever mention a player if you have no intention of giving them a chance to play even if it's just 2mins,” tweeted another Blues fan.
“Olivier Giroud always comes through in the end and scores goal,” added another supporter.
Giroud has struggled to break into Lampard’s plans since the former England international took over this summer.
Lampard is prioritising the next generation of Chelsea stars, handing youngster Tammy Abraham the number nine shirt at Stamford Bridge.
Giroud has scored just five Premier League goals for Chelsea from 43 appearances.
He joined the club from London rivals Arsenal in January 2018, in a £15million deal.
