Liverpool injury update: Salah latest with Klopp closely monitoring star ahead of Man Utd
Liverpool travel to Manchester United on Sunday (4.30pm) looking to extend their 100 per cent record in the Premier League.
Liverpool: Jurgen Klopp discusses Mo Salah injury
Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp will continue to monitor the fitness of Mohamed Salah ahead of this weekend’s trip to Manchester United.
Salah has stayed behind at Melwood throughout the international break, recovering from an ankle injury sustained in the win over Leicester.
The Egyptian had to leave the field late on in the win over Leicester after being on the end of a late Hamza Choudhury tackle.
He trained away from the main group yesterday as he continues working under a tailored programme which has been designed to see him start on Sunday.
As it stands, he is on course to keep his place in the starting line up alongside Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino.
The good news for Liverpool is that Alisson is set to return to Klopp's eleven.
He has not played since the opening day of the Premier League season when he damaged his calf muscle against Norwich.
Adrian has filled the void expertly in his absence, helping Liverpool win eight from eight in the Premier League.
But the former West Ham goalkeeper is expected to make way for Alisson at Old Trafford.
Klopp deems this the perfect time to bring his No 1 back, after the international break.
Joel Matip also returned to full training on Tuesday from a knock that kept him out of matches with RB Salzburg and Leicester.
The centre-back is also expected to regain his place in the starting eleven, alongside Virgil van Dijk.
Despite taking the three points against the Foxes last time out, Klopp couldn’t help but express his frustration at the tackle on Salah from Choudhury.
“It was 1-1 and no-one wants to leave the pitch, so for Mo it was not possible to carry on,” said the Reds boss after the match.
“Sometimes I speak about a win and people think I am mad, but this kind of challenge to me – I don’t want to speak any more about the player – but this has to be a red card.
“It is just too dangerous. There are more dangerous challenges, it is possible, but do you see more dangerous challenges than that? It is really rare.”
