Roy Keane slams three England players - ‘Gareth needs to give them a rollicking'
England struggled after a fine start to their Euro 2020 qualifier against Czech Republic.
England were 'sloppy' against Czech Republic says Keane
Roy Keane was heavily critical of England’s first-half performance in the Euro 2020 qualifier against Czech Republic on Friday night.
Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson, West Ham star Declan Rice and Tottenham left-back Danny Rose caught the brunt of the Irishman’s criticism.
England took an early lead in Prague, with captain Harry Kane dispatching a penalty after Raheem Sterling was brought down when through on goal.
However, the lead lasted less than five minutes as Jakub Brabec brought the hosts level from a corner.
Henderson and Rice, they might as well sit with us in the studio, no affect on the game
And Keane said England manager Gareth Southgate would have got into his side at the break.
“Yeah I think it’s been poor, I don’t think England have got going,” Keane said on ITV.
“They had a lucky break, penalty after five minutes, you’re thinking they’re going to maybe kick on from there, but they haven’t got going at all.
“Really sloppy, Henderson and Rice, they might as well sit with us in the studio, no affect on the game.
“Danny Rose is strolling out there. Gareth needs to give them a bit of a rollicking and I’m sure he will do.”
Striker Patrik Schick almost put Czech Republic ahead but his header missed the target from close range.
And Keane was disappointed in the entire defensive play on show from the visitors.
“You’ve had the warning, you’ve had the goal, you’ve got to smell these things,” he added.
“It’s not about coaching or managing, some of the senior players have got to, it’s called smelling the danger.
“Sometimes players defensively think it’s great to be so tight to them but you need to drop of, you’re too tight.
“It’s easy to lose a man when there are so many people grouped. But credit to the Czechs, the delivery has been fantastic.”
