Steve Nicol suggests Man Utd's first January transfer is ‘pretty much signed and sealed’
Manchester United have been backed to complete a deal for Juventus striker Mario Mandzukic.
Man Utd: First January transfer ‘signed and sealed’ says pundit
Mario Mandzukic’s move to Manchester United is “pretty much signed and sealed”, according to Liverpool legend Steve Nicol.
Mandzukic has emerged as a serious transfer target for United in the upcoming January window.
The 33-year-old is yet to feature at all under Maurizio Sarri at Juventus this season.
United have struggled to score goals this term, failing to score more than once in any game since the opening day 4-0 victory over Chelsea.
I think it happens and I think it’s pretty much signed and sealed as well
And Nicol says Mandzukic would be a wise signing for the Red Devils, even if it goes against the youthful approach they adopted in the summer window.
“I think it happens and I think it’s pretty much signed and sealed as well,” Nicol told ESPN FC.
“So yeah I don’t think there’s any question this is a hit.
“It’s something that United need but let’s be honest, it’s going against all the nonsense they gave us at the start of the season about youth - yeah right.
“Listen, they don’t have an option [but to sign Mandzukic], let’s be quite honest.
“He’s not going to do any worse [than what United have]. All the young players, the likes of [Mason] Greenwood, they’re not ready for the Premier League.
“Mandzukic, an old campaigner, experienced. He will come in for a short period of time and do a good job.”
Former United striker Dimitar Berbatov also thinks Mandzukic would be a good signing for his old side.
"When you sell two of your main strikers you need to bring in at least one, just in case," the former United striker told Betfair .
"Everybody can see that that Manchester United need a back up, Anthony Martial is injured and there isn't another really strong proven goalscorer.
"They have the talent in the young players but at the same time you need someone like Mario Mandzukic.
"I think he is a really good football player and he hasn't played before in England but I hope if he comes he can straight away get into the rhythm of the Premier League.”
