Man Utd tipped to spend big in January transfer market to ‘get out of the mess’ they're in
Manchester United are in a terrible situation at the moment after Sunday’s defeat to Newcastle.
Man Utd need new players to get them out of mess says pundit
Manchester United are likely to go out in the January transfer window and spend their way out of trouble.
That’s what ESPN pundit Mark Ogden believes.
Man Utd are currently just two points clear of the relegation spots in the Premier League after a disaster start to the season.
The Red Devils were beaten 1-0 by Newcastle on Sunday at St James’ Park.
Matty Longstaff scored a screamer on his professional league debut for the Magpies, firing into the bottom corner from the edge of the penalty area.
He played in the centre of the park with his brother, Sean, who had been a transfer target for United earlier in the summer.
United reportedly made two bids for the young midfielder as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer revamped his squad with a focus on younger players.
Solskjaer was keen to sign the 21-year-old to partner Paul Pogba, but the two clubs were unable to come to an agreement.
However, Ogden believes that United will go out and spend big in January to try to get out of the mess they are currently in.
“It’s Man Utd, they’ll go out and sign players in January to get out of the mess,” he said on ESPN FC.
Ogden went on to criticise the way the club is run, and said the problems go back to when Sir Alex Ferguson’s days as manager.
“The problems run deeper at the club than the current squad,” he continued.
“It probably goes back to Sir Alex’s days, when he made bad signings in the transfer market - Phil Jones, Chris Smalling, they’re still there in all intensive purposes. Why?
“They haven’t made the right decisions in ten years or so now.”
United face Liverpool in their first game back from the international break.
