Premier League top scorers: Abraham joins Aguero, Aubameyang just behind
Premier League top scorers - who leads the way in the race for the Golden Boot?
Tammy Abraham shows off his skills in Chelsea training
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s strike against Manchester United on Monday saw the Arsenal striker close the gap on Manchester City rival Sergio Aguero in the Golden Boot race.
The Gunners star moved level with Chelsea’s Tammy Abraham, who equalled Aguero’s tally of eight goals himself by netting against Southampton on Sunday.
VAR was needed to award Aubameyang’s goal at Old Trafford after his effort was initially ruled out for offside by the officials.
The Gabonese said afterwards: "I think we took the ball, I got a great pass. I was sure I was not offside, I was surprised the referee whistled, but I tried to finish because I was sure.
"I just heard the crowd say it was offside, but then it was a goal so I was happy.
"It's a strange feeling (waiting for a VAR review), you cannot celebrate 100 per cent, but it's OK. I am happy."
Aubameyang was unable to continue his fine scoring run when Arsenal hosted Bournemouth on Sunday.
Aguero’s City were also in action on Sunday afternoon, but they lost 2-0 to Wolves.
Liverpool, meanwhile, extended their lead at the top of the Premier League table to eight points with a 2-1 victory over Leicester on Saturday.
Sadio Mane was on the scoresheet for the Reds, taking his tally to five for the season.
A sublime pass from Reds midfielder James Milner put Mane through on goal and the Senegalese forward later admitted it took him by surprise.
Mane said: "The assist was just incredible. I didn't expect that he saw me because usually he never gives me that kind of ball!
"It was just a great assist from Milner and I just try to finish each ball. Lucky boy, I just finished this one and I'm happy to score a goal, especially as we got the three points."
