Rangers legend Barry Ferguson blasts Sheyi Ojo for ‘best in Scotland’ Celtic claim
Rangers legend Barry Ferguson has sent a stern message to youngster Sheyi Ojo, after the winger claimed that the Gers were the best team in Scotland, in a dig at Scottish Premiership title rivals Celtic.
Rangers: Sheyi Ojo shows off his skills in training
Rangers hero Barry Ferguson isn’t happy with winger Sheyi Ojo, after the youngster stood by his claim that the Gers were the best team in Scotland.
Ojo made the claim after he arrived on loan at Rangers from Liverpool, at the start of the summer.
He then repeated the statement last weekend, after the gap at the top of the Scottish Premiership table was reduced to just a single point.
But Ferguson, who spent 10 years at Rangers split over two spells, said that those type of statements shouldn’t be made, despite the high confidence in Steven Gerrard’s camp.
When players start coming out and saying things, I don’t like it
“It’s clear confidence is high, but keep it in house,” Ferguson told PLZ Soccer. “That would be my message.
“I’d probably say another few things that I can’t repeat.
“I like confidence in players, but when players start coming out and saying things, I don’t like it.
“I never enjoyed it myself when I was playing, and we spoke about it a lot as a team.
“If we’re doing well, we’ll just go about our business quietly, and I prefer when players do that.”
Ojo ruffled Celtic fans’ feathers when he made the claim this summer.
After Rangers beat Aberdeen 5-0 at Ibrox this weekend, the 22-year-old confirmed that he still thinks Gerrard’s side are the team to beat this season.
“I stand by what I said and I think Rangers are on a good run of form,” said Ojo.
“We are doing really well so far this season and we are looking hungry.
“It can only be a positive for any team that looks hungry and is getting wins.
“Of course we have to give Celtic respect but, from my own opinion, I believe we can have a really successful season.”
Rangers have won three games in a row and closed the gap at the top of the table to just a single point at the weekend, after Celtic dropped their first points of the season.
The Hoops were held to a 1-1 draw against Hibernian at Easter Road, and Rangers capitalised.
