Liverpool and Man City fans troll Man Utd over De Gea deal - Not even best in Manchester
Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea has been given a bumper new contract at Old Trafford, with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer tying down the Spaniard for the next four years. But Liverpool and Manchester City fans have trolled United, claiming De Gea isn’t even the best goalkeeper in the Premier League.
De Gea 'is a problem at Manchester United' says Murphy
Manchester United have tied David de Gea down with a new four-year contract, keeping him at Old Trafford until June 2023.
But, rival fans have been quick to troll United, claiming De Gea’s best days are behind him.
De Gea had a difficult season for the Red Devils last term, making a number of errors leading to goals - most notably against Barcelona at the Nou Camp.
Liverpool and Manchester City fans think their respective goalkeepers - Alisson and Ederson - are better than the Spaniard.
Alisson is a European Champion, De Gea never will be
“Alisson is a European Champion, De Gea never will be,” said one fan on Twitter.
“Also broke a golden glove record De Gea Will never have, and most importantly, Alisson is the best in the world RIGHT NOW, which is all that matters.”
“De Gea knows his s*** performances have caught up with him then,” said one Liverpool fan.
“You've got no choice but to stay at United now. Alisson is better than De Gea ever was.”
One Twitter user added: “De Gea used to be number in the world, but in league alone he is currently several steps below Alisson and Ederson.
“Now that the drama over his contract is over, it's up to him to fight and reclaim that number 1 spot.”
Another Twitter user said: “He’s not even the best GK in Manchester.”
“Ederson better than De Gea,” said another.
“Unlucky United should of sold and bought Oblak the real worlds number 1,” added a fan on Twitter.
“De Gea Far from it not even Spain’s number 1, Courtois was always better when in the PL and for better keepers there’s Oblak, Alisson, Ederson, Courtois still better too.”
United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer disagrees, however, and claimed De Gea is the best goalkeeper in the world.
“I am delighted that David has committed his long-term future to the club,” he said, after United announced De Gea’s new contract.
“Over recent years, David has proved himself to be the best in the world and a vital part of our plans as we look to take Manchester United back to where it belongs.
“David is a fantastic person and his outstanding quality provides the perfect base to our defence.”
On Thursday, De Gea could make his first appearance for the Red Devils since signing his new deal when United host Astana in the Europa League (8pm).
