When Chelsea hope Callum Hudson-Odoi will play first game under Frank Lampard after injury
Callum Hudson-Odoi returned to full training this week as he continues his recovery from an Achilles injury.
Chelsea are hoping to have Callum Hudson-Odoi return to action early next month, according to reports.
Hudson-Odoi has been on the sidelines since April with an Achilles injury, which he suffered in Chelsea’s 2-2 draw with Burnley.
The 18-year-old has been working hard to get back to full fitness and returned to full training earlier this week.
Chelsea boss Frank Lampard is refusing to throw the winger back into the fold straight away, opting instead to integrate him into the team after the international break.
That’s according to the Daily Mail, who claim Lampard has pencilled in Chelsea’s trip to Molineux to face Wolves on September 14 for the youngster’s return.
Last season, Hudson-Odoi attracted interest from German giants Bayern Munich, who tabled three bids for his services.
Hudson-Odoi was keen to join the Bundesliga champions and even handed in a transfer request in order to engineer a move to the Allianz Arena.
Chelsea rejected his request and have offered him a bumper new deal, which he’s understood to be on the verge of signing.
Frank Lampard plans on playing Callum Hudson-Odoi against Wolves on September 14
Lampard - who has yet to win a competitive game since taking charge of the Blues - is a big fan of Hudson-Odoi and believes he can play a big role in the starting XI this season.
He said: “I am not going say things that are pie in the sky.
"I am not going to say, ‘This is all going to be your way’.
“But knowing his talent he can be central to this team, he can be central to an England team.
“I am going to say I want to work with him, I want to drive him forward.
“I want to improve him as a player and he can show right here at Chelsea, the club he came through the academy at, that he is going to be an absolute world-class player – because I truly believe that.”
Chelsea will be back in action on Saturday afternoon, travelling to Carrow Road to take on Norwich City.
