What Paul Pogba must say in chat with Man Utd boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer - Jamie Carragher
PAUL POGBA must tell Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer he should no longer be a designated penalty taker.
That is the opinion of Sky Sports pundit and Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher.
Paul Pogba missed a penalty in Manchester United’s 1-1 draw with Wolves on Monday.
The decision to allow Pogba to take the penalty caused controversy after the match among the pundits.
Former United defender Gary Neville questioned why Pogba took it after Marcus Rashford took and converted one on the opening day victory over Chelsea at Old Trafford.
Tomorrow morning, let’s sort this out, Rashford’s the penalty taker
After the match Ole Gunnar Solskjaer claimed both Rashford and Pogba are the club’s designated spot-kick takers.
However, Carragher says that is a system that will never work.
Pogba has missed four penalties in the last year at United and Carragher says the Frenchman must make the decision of giving Rashford the responsibility from now on.
“That [having two penalty takers] will never work, the two penalty takers, whoever feels confident, they both feel confident,” Carragher said.
“So you will get that now every week for Manchester United.
“They’ve had two penalties in the first two games.
“Twice there’s been a conversation - you don’t need to have a conversation, that’s it.
“The manager’s got to be stronger.
“Paul Pogba has got to actually think of the team and think ‘Rashford’s actually the best penalty taker, I’m there if he’s not there’.
“‘Tomorrow morning, let’s sort this out, Rashford’s the penalty taker’.
“And whether it’s Paul Pogba or Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, he’s got to be stronger to tell Paul Pogba he’s not on the penalties, because he’s not actually good at them.
“It has probably, Rashford could have missed, [but] probably has cost them two points tonight.”
