Arsenal cannot win the Premier League title for one reason - ‘As simple as that’
ARSENAL defended well against Burnley but their inconsistency at the back means they cannot win the Premier League title this season.
Arsenal too inconsistent to win the Premier League says Nicol
That is the opinion of ESPN FC pundit and former Liverpool defender Steve Nicol.
Arsenal have won their first two Premier League games of the season for the first time in 10 years.
The Gunners backed up the 1-0 win at Newcastle United with a 2-1 home victory over Burnley on Saturday.
New signing David Luiz impressed on his debut in the middle of the defence.
They can’t defend well enough, as simple as that
Nicol gave credit where credit is due and said Arsenal did defend well at the Emirates.
However, he cannot see them keeping it up for an entire season.
“No they can’t [win the title],” Nicol said.
“They can’t defend well enough, as simple as that.
“They can score goals, yeah [they’re fun to watch].
“[Nicolas] Pepe was running with the ball, running at defenders, all the things we love to see.
“You can’t argue that they defended well against Burnley.
“The goal Burnley got was just a fluke.
“Other than that, against Burnley it’s not always about winning the first ball. It’s about winning the second one.
“Arsenal won all the important second balls in their own box.
“So you can’t say they didn’t defend well today.
“The problem is, how consistent are they going to be throughout the season defensively?
“So that’s the reason I would say they can’t win it.”
Fellow pundit Alejandro Moreno agreed with Nicol, commenting: “One hundred per cent no [Arsenal can't win the league].”
