Two Chelsea players have proved they must start under Frank Lampard - Steve Nicol
CHELSEA stars Christian Pulisic and Mason Mount have proven they should be regular starters under Frank Lampard.
Chelsea: Lampard needs to play Mount and Pulisic says pundit
That is according to Liverpool legend and ESPN FC pundit Steve Nicol.
Pulisic and Mount have both been involved in Chelsea’s opening two games of the season.
Academy graduate Mount, who Lampard had on loan at Derby last term, started in the 4-0 Premier League defeat at Manchester United.
Pulisic came on as a second-half substitute in that match but started in the UEFA Super Cup defeat to Liverpool on Wednesday.
If I’m Frank Lampard, I’m playing Mason Mount on one side and I’m playing Pulisic on the other side
The USA international joined Chelsea from Borussia Dortmund in January for £58million but was then loaned to Dortmund for the remainder of the campaign.
He impressed against Liverpool and had a goal disallowed for a marginal offside.
And Nicol has seen enough to think both Pulisic and Mount should start either side of a central striker.
He reckons that striker should be Olivier Giroud and not Tammy Abraham.
“I thought he did well in this game,” Nicol said of Pulisic.
“I thought he looked sharp, I thought he scored a good goal.
“He was unlucky that he was slightly offside but he still had a lot to do.
“Went past the defender and stuck it in the bottom corner.
“If I’m Frank Lampard, I’m playing Mason Mount on one side and I’m playing Pulisic on the other side, and I’m playing Giroud through the middle.
“Mount’s looked good, for me Pulisic’s looked good, Tammy Abraham is not a centre-forward in the Premier League, and you have to play Giroud.”
Chelsea will be aiming to get their first win of the season tomorrow when they host Leicester (4.30pm).
