Man Utd hero Gary Neville reveals what he thinks of #GlazersOut, sends message to fans
GARY NEVILLE has criticised the online #GlazersOut movement campaigning for the resignation of Manchester United’s owners.
Man United: Pundit discusses ‘extraordinary’ Glazer finances
The late American businessman Malcom Glazer became the club’s majority shareholder in 2005 and two of his sons, Joel and Avram, are now co-chairmen.
Large sections of the Old Trafford faithful have become disenchanted with the Glazer regime due to what they perceive as selfish, business-minded running of the club.
Some United supporters broke away from the club in 2005 and founded FC United of Manchester as a response to the American family’s acquisition.
United fans have also sported green and gold scarves - the colours of Newton Heath LYR FC, the club’s original name - for years in protest.
And earlier this year fans an online movement galvanised using the tagline #GlazersOut.
It has become one of the most trending hashtags on Twitter at times and a social media page titled ‘#GlazersOut Movement’ has released numerous statements since April regarding the club’s ownership.
But Neville, who was club captain for six years during his 19-year professional career at United, has criticised the movement online after prodding by United fan pages.
@TotallyMUFC questioned Neville’s stance on the Glazers after the Sky Sports pundit complained about a late-running train on Twitter earlier in the week.
Owners don’t leave clubs unless they want to or are being hurt commercially.
“More annoyed about a late train than the club you love being taking for a ride and going backwards. #GlazersOut #FiveKeyQuestions,” the tweet read.
Neville replied: “Don’t own the club, haven’t worked for the club for 7 years , don’t play or coach at the club and have no influence whatsoever in what happens.
“I’m just a fan like you and share frustrations like any other ( maybe you are maybe you’re not ) so be quiet and do one!”
Neville was then irked again as StrettyNews.com tweeted on Saturday evening: “You come across some b*llocks on here, but Gary Neville a Glazer apologist? That‘s just stupid!”

The 44-year-old responded on Sunday morning: “From muppets on here who think something trending or an ex player having a go will move the owners out of the club !
“Owners don’t leave clubs unless they want to or are being hurt commercially. A bit of noise on here isn’t going to do a jot! It’s like a fly attacking an elephant!”
When a fan commented that irritation is “what we want”, Neville again had an answer.
“They had G&G (green and gold) in the stadium for two years and protests with break away fans setting up another club! You think they worry about irritation? Not a chance.”
