Jurgen Klopp reveals why Liverpool and Man City ‘cannot’ get 98 points this season
LIVERPOOL boss Jurgen Klopp has revealed why it’s impossible for the Reds and Manchester City to get 98 points in the Premier League title race this season, and how the eventual winners will seal the trophy.
Liverpool: Jurgen Klopp praises team despite Man City loss
Liverpool and Manchester City won’t be able to run away in the Premier League title race this season, according to Klopp.
That’s because the competition has significantly improved over the summer.
Klopp expects Tottenham and Chelsea to be pushing Liverpool and City for the title.
He also thinks Manchester United will be closer to the action at the top of the table after dipping into the transfer market.
Competition will be closer in title race
“It looks like this season will be different to last season because there was a big gap between the other teams and us and City,” said Klopp.
“Competition will be closer in title race; more than just two teams.
“Tottenham lost contact in March, United much earlier but then came close again [to top four], Arsenal was long then lost contact, Chelsea pretty similar.
“Chelsea changed their manager and will change their structure completely and there is always a chance for them.
“If you look at the team, yes they have had a transfer ban, but they have a really good team.
“United have been pretty busy in the transfer market, they want to change a lot.
“It looks like we will all be closer to each other than last season.
“If that is the case then you cannot get 97 or 98 points, you have to win all the important games, the best way is to win all the games.”
Klopp chose not to spend big in the summer transfer window, having been satisfied with his current squad.
He said it’s up to the players to prove that his plan was right.
The German also claimed that all of the best teams in history have consisted of a core of players that stayed with the same team for a long time.
Liverpool are set to kick off their Premier League campaign tonight (8pm), as they take on Norwich City at Anfield.
